New regional director Stockholm: Annalie Schmittmann

17/11/2024

Annalie Schmittmann has recently joined Luuk Merkx as regional director Stockholm, and we asked her to introduce herself:
Picture
” I first moved to Stockholm over 17 years ago to work as an au pair, and quickly fell in love with Sweden—especially Stockholm. The stunning views, wild nature, changing seasons, and wide-open spaces gave me a sense of belonging that I couldn’t quite shake. So, for almost four years ago, I decided to return, this time with some more life experience and greater clarity, I was totally ready for a new adventure!
Luckily, I found a job that has allowed me to grow both professionally and personally, positively expanding my network and regularly connecting me with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce in Sweden.
After attending several of the Chamber’s events last year, my curiosity was piqued and it felt like the right next step to join the team as Regional Director for Stockholm—a role and chance I’m truly honored to have been given and am excited to embrace!
In closing, I look forward to collaborating with you and creating memorable events that will inspire and connect us all in the near future! ”

Can you tell us more about Berlitz Sweden/The Berlitz cooperation?
Since 1878, Berlitz has helped businesses, professionals, actors, and politicians enhance their language skills and communication abilities. Berlitz was established in Sweden, September 30th, 1931.

Our Training is offered in various formats—face-to-face, online, or a flexible blend of both. All courses share the globally recognised Berlitz Method®. This method is based on the premise that acquiring language skills should be straightforward. How? you might wonder. Everyone who has tried to learn a language knows it doesn’t happen with the snap of a finger.

At Berlitz, all lessons are conducted in your chosen language, whether you’re a complete beginner or highly advanced. Each lesson is strategically crafted with a defined goal. It starts with a presentation of new vocabulary, followed by guided exercises to ensure precise pronunciation and accuracy. The next phase encourages the learner to express themselves more freely through dialogue and role-play. While there’s no magic involved, the Berlitz Method maximizes speaking time, leading to rapid results.
Within Berlitz’s framework, the focus is on developing the learner’s speaking and listening skills. Grammar is acquired contextually and by topic, ensuring proper usage. Ultimately, Berlitz guarantees an active and dynamic language acquisition process through personalized, goal-oriented, and immersive methods. The training is tailored to meet the learner’s unique needs and aspirations.

How did you get in contact with the Dutch Chamber and why did you decide to join?
We heard about the Dutch Chamber of Commerce from our colleagues at Berlitz in the Netherlands, and here after it was easy to take the decision, and we're thrilled to join!

Do you have a personal connection with the Netherlands?

Meet up with Dutch Minister of Foreign Trade

8/11/2024

On Monday, the 4th of November, we hosted a discussion with Minister for Foreign Trade Reinette Klever and VNO-NCW Chair Ingrid Thijssen on doing business in Sweden.
Co-organised by the Dutch Chamber of Commerce in Sweden, the Netherlands Embassy, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this event was part of the Dutch trade mission focusing on the green energy transition.

The conversation highlighted recent developments and key differences between the Netherlands and Sweden regarding international talent attraction, permitting processes, public consultation, and housing and infrastructure. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this meaningful exchange of insights. Together, we’re building a future of shared progress!

Until next time!
/M.H.

Can you tell us more about yourself?
I came to Malmö at the end of 2017 at the age of 26 with the Skatteverket title retired, since I did not have family, work, or study reasons to be here. For me, it was about the Swedish culture which creates a good space to innovate. My career is best described as entrepreneurial, with my last real job being the CEO of the entrepreneurship ecosystem organisation in Skåne. Nowadays I match entrepreneurs with European institutional investors and plan the growth stages with scaleup founders. In my free time, I like to spend time with my family, cold-bathing (only in winter), and work on my passion projects.

Why did you join the Dutch chamber?
At first, it was not a logical step for me, since I have been saying for years that one doesn’t move to a new country to meet Dutch people. Nowadays I know how valuable a network of Swedish-Dutch business relationships can be. There is much free leverage we get by meeting people who come from a similar culture, that it’s stupid not to do. You understand each other faster, and better and have an easier time creating value. It’s both professionally rewarding, and also a lot of fun!

What are your ideas and ambitions for this position?
Like I said in the last answer, networks like these are strong and rewarding to be part of. This should also be available for the southern part of Sweden. The better network effect we create here, the better we can grow together as a person and as a Swedish-Dutch business network—not only as a region but also for the Dutch Chamber in Sweden and all its members across all the regions. There is a lot that Sweden can learn from the region of Ikea, Bluetooth, Android 1.0 and many other innovations!
