Northwave Cyber Security has recently joined the Dutch Chamber as a corporate member. We asked Marc de Jong Luneau, one of the owners and general manager of Northwave Nordics, to tell us more about this international company -with Dutch roots- and its upcoming expansion to the Nordics.
What is the Dutch company Northwave about?
Well, Northwave Cyber Security is all about... Cyber Security! Since our start in 2006, we have a 100% focus on delivering a holistic approach to cyber risk management. This means that we always look at the entire complexity of the challenge and make sure that our clients have continuous control over their cyber risks. Founded in the Netherlands, we are a truly European company. Self-financed and management-owned, we are currently a crew of around 300 experts working from offices in Utrecht (NL), Leipzig (DE) and Brussels (BE) and now Stockholm, protecting European companies in their business ventures around the world.
Northwave is expanding into the Nordic countries. What is the reason for this?
Scandinavians tend to rely on the trust and safety that they experience in society normally. Unfortunately, online there is a different reality. Criminals and Nation States are attacking anything and anybody to create personal gain. The Scandinavian economies are increasingly dependent on digitalization and therefore vulnerable. Today, 42% of Swedish companies still feel that they are 'underinvested' in cyber security. In other words, they know themselves that they are not protected sufficiently. We believe that our approach offers them a pragmatic, relevant and valuable choice to improve that. Sweden is pretty close to the Netherlands in terms of culture, values and attitudes. Specifically, the fact that we are a management owned company is resonating well here. Even more so, since most of the local competitors have been absorbed by international investors and private equity. We are confident that we will be a good fit with the needs of the Swedes.
Do you have a personal connection to Sweden?
I do now! During this rather cold winter, I have developed a warm relationship with Stockholm and the people I have met so far. I look forward to deepening this relationship and to building new ones.
Are you hiring staff in Sweden soon?
Yes for sure! We are in the process of hiring a Country Manager for Sweden and will task him or her with building a larger local team.
What can other members expect from Northwave as a corporate member?
We will want to actively share our expertise and insights as much as you allow us to. With our Incident Response Team, for example, we handle dozens of serious incidents around the globe every month. This gives us a very active and up-to-date picture of what is going on beneath the digital surface that we all rely on so much. I believe this is relevant to all members and we will do our best to make our knowledge available.
