Our partner KLM starts new flight route to Växjö

28/2/2018

Picture

Good news for our members in the southern part of Sweden. In May 2018 KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will continue to expand its medium haul network, with scheduled services to Växjö in Småland. KLM will operate a daily flight to Växjö in an Embraer 175 with 88 seats.

Barry ter Voert, Senior Vice President Europe: ”North Europe is a strong and attractive region where KLM already operates a unique network. We are proud to be the first major international airline to launch daily flights to Växjo, the hometown of IKEA”.

Located in the south of Sweden, Växjö is the capital city of the Kronoberg region. It has an entrepreneurial climate, a renowned university and is the hometown of Ikea. Växjö gives access to nature and outdoor activities and has an excellent reputation for gastronomy.

The first flight will be on 14 May 2018.  More information can be found here (KLMs pressrelease - in Swedish).

Young Professionals Event on 15 February

23/2/2018

On the 15th of February, the first Young Professionals Event was organised by the Embassy of the Netherlands, with help from the Dutch Chamber, for young professionals with an interest in the Netherlands and Sweden.
A large audience gathered to listen to the knowledgeable panel (Vattenfall, Undutchables Recruitment, Grow Internationals). They discussed cultural differences in the workplace between the Netherlands and Sweden by sharing personal experiences and relevant tips.
This meeting was organised and moderated by the embassy's intern Lisette Sikkens and a follow-up meeting will be organised in the future by the next interns.

AGM and Toast to the new year!

22/2/2018

On 8 February the Dutch Chamber's Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place, followed by a New Year's Reception.

After the presentation of last year's results and discharge of the Executive Board, Agnès Courades Allebeck from the National Board of Trade Sweden took the floor. She gave her insights in trade in the EU market and shared valuable information about the Swedish market for (foreign) businesses:

"The mission of the Board is to work for free and open trade with transparant rules, " Agnès Courades Allebeck, Head of the Internal Market Department at the National Board of Trade explained. Their focus is not restricted to Swedish trade but on trade in general and the Board has a special mandate to work for a correct and uniform application of EU law in Sweden.

For doing so they provide three interesting services that can be called upon. These are Point of Single Contact, Solvit Center and the Product Contact Point.

To make it easier for companies selling services, each EU country has a Point of Single Contact. At this point of contact information can be found about requirements, authorities responsible for different services, application forms etcetera. For more information, click here.

The Solvit Center is a service that can be contacted if you are facing a problem with free trade or movement within the internal market. Common problems for EU companies are public procurement or posting of workers. Solvit can mediate between business partners and their services are free of charge.
More information can be found here.

The Product Contact Point can be contacted if you're unsure about what rules are applied on a certain product. More information about this service can be found here:

After this presentation the Ambassador invited all participants to her residence, where she gave her view on 2018 and brought a toast for prosperity.

The Annual Report for 2017 can be found at our website.

Great Go.Innovation Lab with Amer Mohammed

2/2/2018

"It is all about using data and understanding how things connect in order to enhance the customer experience."

This was one of the messages Amer Mohammed, head of digital innovations at Stena Line, made during the Go.Innovation Lab on Thursday 1st of February in Gothenburg.
He gave us an insight in digital leadership within Stena Line and his 'leading edge' view on digital transformation (articificial intelligence). With personal anecdotes, movies and examples he inspired our audience!

Some of his main messages:
- The impact of artificial intelligence will be revolutionary, on a scale greater than the information age.
- In future user experience will be the only thing differentiating your company from others, and this requires big data on your customers.
- We were able to increase buy-in through our reverse mentoring program - we hooked up senior leaders with young IT entrepreneurs to introduce them to the new digital age.
- Choose the right people and then get out of the way.

Together, in presence of our colleagues from the Norwegian-Swedish Chamber of Commerce and the Swiss Chamber of Commerce as well as one of our sponsors, Lloyd’s Register, we are looking back on a great evening and looking forward to the next Go Innovation Lab in Gothenburg on the 12th of April!

New year's Reception in Malmö

2/2/2018

On the 31 of January,  Dutch Chamber South invited to a New Years get-together at Casino Cosmopol.
We were happy to be be hosted in the beautiful Tower room in the old building that was built in 1893, in the middle of Kungsparken in Malmö.
The Casino Manager Yared Gabretensaye gave us a very interesting presentation both about Casino Cosmopol but also about Svenska Spel and the general operations and regulations of the gambling industry in Sweden, while the audience enjoyed bubbles and some canapés.

There were many  questions afterwards, as many people have a certain image of the industry as such. Another fun fact our host shared was that Holland Casino consulted the whole process of establishing Casino Cosmopol in Sweden. Yared said the Dutch have by far the best way of managing casinos and making it a true experience that is more than games and slot machines.  We trust him on this one as he has global experience.

We were also happy to see many new faces and already look forward to see what acquaintances and memories 2018 will hold!
