It's exactly that what athlete and retired speed skater Nils van der Poel shared with us. On January 30th, we attended his lecture on ’Motivation, my weakest link’. Råda Rum, the beautiful church and conference venue just outside Gothenburg, was sold out.
During one hour Nils van der Poel gave us an insight on his thoughts. From training for the World Junior Championship Speed Skating in the Netherlands aged twelve to the big question if it was all worth it. Nils, the current World and Olympic record holder and the 2022 Olympic champion in the 5,000m and 10,000m, now dedicates his time to various commitments, including lecturing for business leaders.
Truike Thien, Dutch orthopedic surgeon in Gothenburg and guest of the Dutch Chamber, shared her perspective: ”While many of us felt a connection with The Netherlands due to Nils' Dutch roots, I found his lecture particularly insightful from a professional standpoint. As someone who works with many athletes, I appreciated the sports perspective. Nils' lecture was truly inspiring and his humor had me laughing throughout the whole evening."
